Memories of Fred Ramsburg
CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. - A construction worker injured in a blasting accident died the next day after undergoing surgery at the University of Virginia Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. Fred Ramsburg, 26, of Brandy Station died Saturday of head injuries he received when a 10-to-15 pound rock propelled by the blast hit him. Other workers at the Target construction site in Stuarts Draft said Ramsburg ran for cover and was behind a van when the rock struck him, piercing his hard hat. Ramsburg was an employee of Patton, Harris, Rust & Associates, a testing company based in northern Virginia. The company has the concrete testing contract for the Target job. Richard Crawford, director of Safety Compliance of the Virginia Administration of Occupational Safety and Health, said the job site remained closed Monday while the accident was under investigation.
